The policy of the partnership was to build bicycles of the highest quality; the most expensive on the British market. Motor cars were built in 1903 of an advanced specification, confirming that we are the oldest motor manufacturer in Great Britain with a continuous history to the present day. Motor cycles were built, again of refinement and at the top of the market, from 1912-1924.
Motor cars of medium size were constructed from 1919-1956 including sports and racing cars which were very successful in the inter-war period. The company was reconstructed in 1937 and produced a new range of cars incorporating a patented very efficient valve gear mechanism, this range continued until 1954.
The company has been controlled by Barrie Price for 60 years, who during this time several experimental cars have been built and a unique parts and service organisation covering Lea-Francis products was born. In August 2019 the business was bought by Dave Wood of Orson Equipment who will continue the supplying of parts either from stock or made to order, he would be happy to hear from you.
He is also pleased to confirm Barrie will remain as non-executive Life President of Lea-Francis Cars.
